Burglar Busted: Liverpool Man Jailed for Deal Break-Ins
Ellis McKeown, 24, from Liverpool, has been locked up for two and a half years after admitting burglary and attempted burglary. The charges followed a probe by Kent Police’s Chief Constable’s Crime Squad.
Shot Down at Canterbury Crown Court
McKeown appeared at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday 4 March 2022. Another man involved, Marcus Jones, 20, also from Liverpool, received a 20-month suspended sentence over the same crimes.
Early Morning Crime Spree in Deal
- On 18 June 2021, a Deal resident spotted intruders in her driveway around 4.30am.
- Attempts were made to break into a nearby property at the same time.
- Thieves then smashed into a house in Sholden, stealing keys to three vehicles — all of which were taken.
The stolen cars were tracked heading toward East Sussex. Just two days later, Sussex Police uncovered one of the stolen vehicles in Fairlight — fitted with false number plates.
Cops Crack Case with CCTV and Quick Arrests
CCTV showed four people near the stolen car. A Kent Police officer recognised McKeown and Jones from previous encounters. Jones was arrested in Liverpool in August 2021, with McKeown caught in Wolverhampton the next month.
McKeown’s sentence also includes a six-month term for dangerous driving in the West Midlands.
Kent Police Detective Sgt Jay Robinson said: “Burglaries severely damage people’s sense of security at home. It’s a huge inconvenience to lose expensive items or be without vehicles. We’re committed to pursuing all offenders.”
“Thanks to swift police work, these suspects were caught and the stolen vehicles recovered. Hopefully, these sentences will deter others and protect residents across Kent and beyond.”
