Maidstone Cadets Plant 100 Trees for Queen’s Green Canopy

Maidstone’s Volunteer Police Cadets have swapped their free time for shovels, planting over 100 trees in a bid to create a lasting green legacy.

Young Heroes in Action

On Saturday 5 March, the teenagers planted a colourful mix of Rowan, Cherry, Hawthorn, and Crab Apple trees in Southons Field. This effort supports The Queen’s Green Canopy, a national project aiming to grow a network of trees, copses, and woodlands across the UK.

The Community Thanks the Cadets

Assistant Cadet Manager Anne-Marie Moore praised their dedication: “These young cadets have all worked very hard to play their part in creating a green legacy for future generations to enjoy in Marden. They should be very proud of their efforts.”

The local parish council also hailed the cadets’ enthusiasm and grit. They’ve even invited them back next year to check on their growing forest.

About the Cadets

The Volunteer Police Cadets, supported by Kent Police, is a uniformed scheme for 13 to 17-year-olds. Cadets meet weekly during school terms and volunteer additional hours on community projects, making a real difference locally.
