An 80-year-old woman was tragically killed when her home in East London went up in flames early this morning.

Around 5.30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 28, emergency services were scrambled to Higham Hill Road in Walthamstow after reports of a house fire near the junction with Mayfield Road.

Crews Battle Blaze but Woman Dies at Scene

Six fire engines and a turntable ladder from the London Fire Brigade rushed to the scene. Despite their valiant efforts, the elderly resident was sadly pronounced dead at the property.

Police Say Fire Not Suspicious, Investigation Underway

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed the fire is not being treated as suspicious. The area remains cordoned off while fire investigators work to uncover the cause.

The victim’s next of kin have been informed.
