Police Drone Dazzles Kids at Mansfield School

Nottinghamshire Police brought high-tech wow-factor to Mansfield’s Wainwright Primary Academy on Friday morning. PC Paul Henson, part of the county’s elite drone team, flew a lightweight police drone high above the playing field to snap an epic aerial photo of pupils arranged in the school’s initials.

Insight Into Police Drone Tech

After the snap, PC Henson sat down for a Q&A with the school’s Mini Police squad. He revealed how police drones regularly track down missing people and chase criminals from the skies. Nearly 20 officers in Nottinghamshire are trained drone pilots, and PC Henson said:

“I really enjoy these kinds of visits. It’s a very rewarding aspect of the job, and I was delighted to assist the school with their aerial photo concept.”

The kids fired off some cracking questions about the drones and police work. PC Henson explained that these school visits help build early connections between children and the police. “If we can inspire and pique their interest in our work, it can only be a good thing,” he added.

Mini Police Inspire Future Officers

The Nottinghamshire Mini Police programme aims to teach kids about safety, community roles, and the police’s role in protecting them. Wainwright Primary Academy enjoys regular visits from officers as part of the scheme. Julia Hallam of the school said:

“We’ve really been honoured by this visit. It was wonderful to involve the entire academy and see the children’s faces light up as the drone flew overhead. One of our youngest foundation students even said, ‘The drone was amazing!’”

Julia also thanked Nottinghamshire Police for their ongoing support, saying the Mini Police initiative has genuinely changed how children view the police.
