Man Arrested After 22-Year-Old Woman Dies Near Kingsbridge

A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 22-year-old woman was found dead on the A379 near Kingsbridge, Devon, in the early hours of Wednesday.

Tragic Scene on Embankment Road

Emergency crews were called to Embankment Road at New Bridge at around 4.45am on April 23. Police and paramedics discovered the woman with severe injuries. Despite efforts to save her, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

What was first reported as a collision has now turned into a full murder inquiry. Devon and Cornwall Police confirmed the arrest of a local man who remains in custody while detectives question him.

“We are treating this as a murder inquiry,” a police spokesperson said. “Our investigation is in its early stages, and we are working to establish the full circumstances that led to this young woman’s death.”

The woman’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Police Issue Urgent Appeal for Witnesses

Officers want to hear from anyone who was near New Bridge on the A379 between 4am and 5am on the morning of the incident. They are especially seeking:

  • Dashcam footage from vehicles passing through
  • Witnesses to any suspicious activity
  • Anyone who saw the woman before the incident
