Met Police Officer Pleads Guilty to Assault and False Imprisonment in Twickenham
Off-Duty Cop Grigg Caught in Twickenham Scandal
PC Sam Grigg, a South West Basic Command Unit officer, appeared at Kingston Crown Court on Thursday, 5 January. The officer pleaded guilty to false imprisonment and assault, offences dating back to 2 December. The incident happened at a house in Twickenham while Grigg was off-duty.
Victim and Officer Known to Each Other
The victim, a woman in her 20s, suffered minor injuries but did not need hospital treatment. The attack was reported on 6 December, with charges brought against Grigg two days later.
Met Police Furious Over Officer’s Conduct
“PC Grigg’s behaviour was totally unacceptable and I know it will cause concern among members of the public,” said Commander Jon Savell, head of the Met’s professional standards team.
“He’s let down the Met and his colleagues who are committed to keeping the people of London safe. We took immediate action to suspend PC Grigg from duty when his offending came to light and we will now look to commence misconduct proceedings at the earliest opportunity.”
“We are determined to have a Met that the public can trust, with officers that people feel comfortable to approach. When someone fails to meet these standards, we will take action to remove them from our organisation.”
Next Steps for PC Grigg
PC Grigg was remanded in custody ahead of sentencing, scheduled for Friday, 10 January at Kingston Crown Court.
