Elderly Woman Targeted in Brazen Bank Cash Snatch
An 86-year-old woman fell victim to a shocking theft after withdrawing £2,000 in cash from a Nottingham bank.
Watchful Thieves Strike in Broad Daylight
On Tuesday, December 6, the pensioner took a bus from Bulwell to Nottingham city centre, arriving around 12.40pm. After enjoying a coffee around 2.12pm, she headed to Lloyds Bank on Lower Parliament Street to withdraw cash, preferring to pay in notes rather than by card.
She carefully stashed the £2,000 in an envelope at the bottom of her handbag. But trouble was lurking.
Two Women Followed Her Into Bank, Made Their Move at Victoria Centre
Two women are reported to have trailed the elderly lady inside the bank, keeping a close eye on her. After leaving the bank, she shopped at the nearby Victoria Centre, where a woman approached, asking for help reaching an item on a shelf—a classic distraction.
As the victim left the store, she discovered her handbag had been searched and the envelope gone.
Police Appeal for Public Help to Catch Thieves
“This was an appalling theft on an elderly victim who is very active and enjoys her regular trips into the city,” said PC Madison Moss-Hayes, leading the investigation.
“She has suffered a significant financial loss, which understandably has left her distraught. We are doing everything possible to apprehend and prosecute those responsible.”
“We’ve released photos of two women we want to speak with. If you recognise them or are them, contact us immediately.”
“We urge anyone withdrawing large sums to be vigilant. Thieves use distraction tactics like asking for help or striking up a friendly chat to catch you off guard.”
If you recognise the women in the released images, call Nottingham Police on 101 quoting incident number 0500 of December 6, 2022, or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
