Burglars Break Into The House Of A Man Who'd Just Died

Two suspects have been arrested after burglars targeted the home of a recently deceased man.

On the 27th of January, emergency services were called to Goodacre Street in Mansfield after reports of a sudden death.

Funeral directors were called to the scene to remove the man’s body, whose death is not being investigated.

Officers returned to the address the next day (28 January) with the man’s family to discover that the house had been broken into overnight.

Jewellery was taken from the property during the burglary, which occurred between 11.30 p.m. on January 27 and 10 a.m. on January 28.

Since then, a 42-year-old man and a 30-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of burglary.

Burglary is an incredibly invasive crime, but especially so in this case, given how soon after the homeowner’s death it occurred,” said Detective Inspector Paul Lefford of Nottinghamshire Police.

“It’s understandable that the victim’s family is upset that their loved one’s home has been broken into.

“As a force, we’re absolutely committed to making reports of this nature a rarity, as we understand the impact these invasive crimes can have on people.

“We have arrested two suspects in connection with this incident, but our inquiries are still ongoing.

“With this in mind, we’d like to ask anyone with information to contact us at 101, quoting incident 216 of 27 January 2023.”
