A speeding driver who claimed he was late for work was barred from driving.
Daniel Walker, 43, of Burbage Wharf, Burbage, was caught by PC Hammond while conducting speed checks on Downton Road, Salisbury, driving at 65mph in a 30mph zone.
Walker was taken to Swindon Magistrates’ Court and pleaded guilty.
He was fined £660, plus a £66 victim surcharge and £110 in court costs.
He was also barred from driving for a period of 56 days.
Being late for work is never an excuse for speeding,” said PC Hammond of the Salisbury Response Team.
“Always plan ahead, leave plenty of time for your journey, and be prepared for unexpected delays.”
Speeding is one of the ‘Fatal Five,’ or the five factors that increase the likelihood of a road user being seriously injured or killed in a traffic collision.
The other four are driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, driving while using a cell phone, not wearing a seatbelt, and careless or dangerous driving.
All of these factors make it more difficult for a driver to safely stop their vehicle and significantly reduce the driver’s reaction time.
