Drug Dealer Marcus Brookfield Faces More Jail Unless He Pays Up £78,000

Caught on EncroChat

Marcus Brookfield was locked up for eight years in March 2022 after cops uncovered his use of the EncroChat mobile phone network to buy blocks of cocaine. These drugs were worth tens of thousands of dollars per kilogramme, putting him at the heart of a massive drugs trade.

Crackdown Across Europe

French and Dutch authorities smashed the encrypted EncroChat service, grabbing data from thousands of devices across Europe. They passed intelligence to the National Crime Agency, helping UK detectives zero in on Brookfield’s criminal empire.

Half a Million Pound Profits in His Pocket

Kent and Essex Serious Crime detectives dug into Brookfield’s finances. They found he’d raked in nearly £500,000 from dealing class A drugs. Authorities seized £78,000 worth of assets including cash, gold coins, watches, and part of his home’s equity.

Fight to Keep Ill-Gotten Gains Fails

On 10 February 2023, Maidstone Crown Court slapped a confiscation order on Brookfield’s assets. He now has three months to cough up the cash or face an extra year behind bars – and still owe every penny.

“Marcus Brookfield may have called himself a samurai, but he had no chance of keeping the dirty money made from selling deadly class A drugs,” said Detective Inspector David Godfrey from the Economic Crime Unit. “We have zero tolerance for this sort of behaviour and will continue hunting down offenders like him.”

The Proceeds of Crime Act means Brookfield’s financial woes aren’t over. Authorities can seize any future assets until the full £500,000 is paid back. Drugs destroy lives, and Brookfield profited off that misery – but the law is closing in tight.
