Burnley Man Jailed for Two Years Over Shocking Abuse of Wife

Christopher Taylor, 60, has been locked up for over two years after a brutal six-year campaign of controlling and coercive behaviour against his wife, Tanya. The terrifying ordeal unfolded between 2016 and 2022 at their home in Burnley.

Twisted Abuse Behind Closed Doors

Taylor’s abuse included isolating Tanya from friends and family, hacking her social media, and impersonating her online by sending explicit photos to men. Tanya revealed the nightmare:

“This person was supposed to love and protect me, but Christopher subjected me to unimaginable horrors. He’d contact people pretending to be me, send naked pictures to male associates, and even reach out to their partners. It was bizarre, frightening, and twisted behaviour I endured constantly.”

She added: “He put me on dating sites under my name and pretended to be me. I can’t understand how anyone could do that to someone they supposedly love.”

Christopher also used threats and violence — like punching walls near her — to keep control. Tanya said she felt trapped and feared for her life.

Tanya’s Fight for Freedom

After years of suffering depression, anxiety, and isolation, Tanya finally went to the police in September 2022. Her bravery is now inspiring others:

“Speaking out was terrifying. I feared what Christopher might do to me or the children. The threats and intimidation were real. It was an extremely dark time, and the fear hasn’t gone away.”

With support from Lancashire Police, victim advocates, and family, Tanya is rebuilding her life. She suffers from panic attacks and nightmares but sees hope ahead.

Police Praise Tanya’s Courage and Warn Other Victims

DC Dave Senior of Lancashire Police’s East Safeguarding Unit said:

“Christopher Taylor was an incredibly devious and high-risk abuser. Tanya’s strength to walk away and report this is nothing short of remarkable. She has transformed from a vulnerable victim to a courageous survivor.”

He added: “We encourage anyone suffering domestic abuse to come forward. Your safety is our priority. We will treat you with respect and provide support every step of the way. There is light at the end of the tunnel.”
