Bold Mansfield Break-In Busted: Thief Nabbed Selling Stolen Sat Nav!
Camera and Gadgets Snatched in Broad Daylight
A con artist targeted a student’s car on High Oakham Road, Mansfield, breaking in and making off with a camera, lenses, a sat nav, and a dash camera. The victim had parked at her boyfriend’s home when the theft struck around 9.45am on 24 March 2023.
Police Trap Suspect at Pawn Shop
Detectives from the Mansfield Central Neighbourhood Policing Team were on the case. On Wednesday, 29 March, officers staked out a local pawn shop. Inside the store, 32-year-old Lewis Langley walked in, casually trying to flog a sat nav – the very same one stolen in the break-in.
Langley, who has no fixed address, was promptly arrested. The stolen sat nav was seized as evidence.
Quick Justice: Langley Jailed for Stolen Goods
Langley didn’t waste time in court. He pleaded guilty to receiving stolen goods and was sentenced to 30 weeks in jail at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on Thursday, 30 March.
Police Praise Teamwork and Community Effort
“This was a fantastic bit of work by the neighbourhood team and I’m really pleased Langley has been put behind bars,” said Sergeant Alice Bartle of Nottinghamshire Police.
“The officers’ diligent investigation caught him red-handed trying to sell stolen goods. Recovering items for victims is vital and it’s always a great win when we reunite victims with their belongings.
“This area has seen a wave of vehicle thefts recently. I hope this result reassures locals that we take reports seriously and tirelessly hunt down offenders.”
