Lewisham man jailed for raping 12-year-old girl at Kings Cross

Alvin Tuitt gets 10 years for horrific attack

Alvin Tuitt, from Boone Street, Lewisham, pleaded guilty to raping and attempting to rape a 12-year-old girl. Yesterday (11 April) he was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court.

The judge handed Tuitt a 10-year prison term for rape, plus a five-year extended sentence on licence. He was also given eight years concurrent for the attempted rape of the same victim. On top of that, he faces a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order and must notify authorities for life.

Disturbing attack on young girl during train journey

On 10 October last year, the vulnerable 12-year-old girl was travelling from Maryland station to Kings Cross when Tuitt approached her. He gained her trust by lending her a power bank and paying for her next train ticket. But his kindness had a sinister side.

Once at Kings Cross, Tuitt led her into a disabled toilet where he raped her and tried to do it again. The girl bravely reported the attack to police the same day.

Swift arrest and police praise brave victim

Tuitt was arrested and charged within 24 hours of the attack. The judge praised the victim’s courage for coming forward.

“The victim in this case was 12-years-old and was extremely vulnerable,” said Detective Constable Mark Pink. “She has been extremely brave in telling police what happened and providing testimony to assist the investigation. The effect that this incident has had on her life and that of her family cannot be measured.

“Tuitt is a predator with a previous conviction for a similar offence and he rightfully now faces a long time behind bars.”
