Man Charged With Murder Following Fatal Shooting In Leicestershire

Tragedy struck in Long Clawson, near Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire, when a woman was fatally shot, leading to the subsequent arrest and charging of a 44-year-old man with murder. The incident unfolded at a property on Kings Road, and the victim, identified as 37-year-old Carrie Slater

Leicestershire Police were alerted to the harrowing scene on Thursday night, following reports of a shooting at a residence in Kings Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered Carrie Slater with life-threatening injuries. The dedicated efforts of emergency responders saw Ms. Slater rushed to a hospital, but sadly, her condition deteriorated, and she lost her life on Saturday night.

In a heartfelt statement released by Leicestershire Police, the family expressed their profound grief and love for their departed daughter and sister.

“Carrie was loved by all of us. She was a daughter and beloved sister to her siblings. We are still coming to terms with what happened. It’s difficult to put into words how we are feeling, but nothing we say is going to bring her back,” the family said.

As the investigation into this tragic incident continues, a 44-year-old man, Richard Basson, of Kings Road in Long Clawson, has been charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting. In addition to the murder charge, Mr. Basson faces charges related to the possession of a prohibited weapon with a length less than 30/60cm (11.8/23.6in) and possession of ammunition without a certificate.

Mr. Basson is scheduled to appear before magistrates in Leicester today.
