Predator Blaine Norton Jailed for 12 Years After Years of Abuse
Blaine Norton, 38, from Falcon Avenue, Grays, has been slammed with a 12-year prison sentence for subjecting his victim to years of horrific abuse. The judge handed down the sentence at Basildon Crown Court on Thursday, October 12, 2023, with an extra two-and-a-half years on licence to follow.
Convicted of Rape, Violence, and False Imprisonment
Norton was previously found guilty of rape, Actual Bodily Harm (ABH), and false imprisonment on June 9 at the same court. As part of his punishment, he’s now on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
The abuse stretched over several years and came to a terrifying climax in January 2017 when Norton raped his victim. Despite her repeated refusals and pleas for him to stop, Norton forced himself on her.
Detectives Praise Victim’s Courage, Urge Others to Speak Up
Detective Constable Richard Clark, who led the case, hailed the victim’s bravery for speaking out against Norton’s horrendous crimes. He said, “Blaine Norton has subjected her to a horrendous ordeal and she has shown great courage coming forward and reporting to us what he had put her through. He now faces a significant amount of time in prison for his actions.”
DC Clark also urged other victims of sexual abuse to come forward. He promised specialist officers would provide full support and carry out thorough investigations. The detective highlighted success in tackling sexual crimes: “In the last year we solved 130 more rape and sexual assault cases than the year before and in total solved more than 575 cases.”
