Ex-Cop in Hot Water Over Sharing Gruesome Pics
Lewis Wood, 42, a former Avon and Somerset police constable, has been slapped with three misconduct charges over allegedly sharing images of a deceased body on social media. The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) authorised the charges, branding it a serious breach of public trust.
Shocking WhatsApp Shares with Family and Friends
Wood is accused of deliberately passing on images and videos via WhatsApp between December 2018 and August 2020 while still on duty. The disturbing content was shared with his own family and friends. At the time, Wood was based in Somerset but left the Avon and Somerset Police in 2021.
Investigation Finds Serious Breach by Former Officer
Assistant Chief Constable Joanne Hall confirmed a thorough investigation was launched as soon as allegations came to light. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) got involved immediately, with the Counter Corruption Unit leading the probe locally. The case file was handed over to the CPS, resulting in the current charges.
“These charges stem from multiple incidents, including the sharing of images of a deceased male. We are committed to keeping those affected updated and supporting them through this difficult time,” said ACC Hall.
Next Steps: Court Appearance Scheduled
Wood is set to appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, October 24. Meanwhile, police stress they are taking the matter seriously and vow to maintain the public’s trust amid this troubling case.
