Wilko Set for Comeback with Five New Stores by Christmas
Wilko is gearing up for a High Street revival! CDS Superstores, the owners of The Range, are snapping up the flailing brand and planning to open up to five new Wilko shops before Christmas.
The first two outlets will launch in Plymouth and Exeter, with more “concept” stores eyed for Devon, the South-East, and the North of England. This follows Wilko’s collapse back in August, leaving a hole on the High Street.
Former Staff to Get First Dibs on Jobs
CDS Superstores wants to bring Wilko back to life – and fast. They’re prioritising rehiring former Wilko employees to restore the trusted team behind the brand.
“The public reaction to the loss of Wilko stores was undeniable,” said CEO Alex Simpkin. “We’re thrilled to bring the brand back to the High Street, offering the household and lifestyle products customers love.”
NatWest Slammed Over Nigel Farage Bank Row
NatWest faces backlash after an independent review slammed its handling of Nigel Farage’s Coutts account closure as having “serious failings” – though the shutdown itself was legal.
Farage branded the report a “whitewash,” accusing law firm Travers Smith of soft-pedalling the truth. The row initially erupted when Farage claimed his politics played a part, which led to the resignation of NatWest CEO Dame Alison Rose.
The review admitted commercial reasons influenced the closure but hasn’t convinced Farage, who continues to challenge the bank’s actions.
Eurozone Inflation Expected to Hit ECB Target By 2025
The European Central Bank (ECB) sees inflation easing closer to its 2% target by 2025, according to its latest survey. Despite interest rates holding steady, growth is expected to linger below 1% next year.
The quarterly Survey of Professional Forecasters predicts consumer price growth will slow to 2.7% this year, just under the ECB’s earlier estimates. By 2025, inflation is forecasted at 2.1%, inching towards the ECB’s goal amid worries over rising energy costs impacting the Eurozone economy.
