Renewed Appeal After Death Of Pensioner In 2008

Detectives from West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team have launched a fresh appeal for information on the 15th anniversary of an arson attack that tragically claimed the life of an 81-year-old pensioner in Wakefield.

Léa Florentina Brooke lost her life in the early hours of November 10, 2008, when her house on Walton Lane, Sandal, was targeted in a deliberate act of arson. The fire started after an unidentified individual poured white spirit through her letterbox and set it alight. Despite extensive investigations, no motive has ever been established for the attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Damian Roebuck is now leading the investigation and has expressed the urgency to bring justice to Léa Florentina Brooke’s family. He emphasised the devastating impact her murder had on the local community, as well as her loved ones.

As the 15th anniversary of this tragic event approaches, the police are appealing to the public for any information that could help identify the person or persons responsible for Léa’s murder. Detective Chief Inspector Roebuck believes that crucial answers may lie within the local community and urges anyone with even the slightest piece of information to come forward. It could be the missing puzzle piece that leads to a significant breakthrough in the case.

Considering the passage of time, Detective Chief Inspector Roebuck acknowledges that allegiances may have changed and encourages individuals who have information about the incident in Sandal that night to speak with his team. The police are particularly interested in any details that could shed light on the motive behind the attack.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team by dialling 101 or using the online chat facility, referencing Operation Pitkennedy. Alternatively, anonymous reports can be made to the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 or online.

The police are hopeful that this renewed appeal will help bring closure to Léa Florentina Brooke’s family, provide answers, and ensure that those responsible for her tragic death are held accountable for their actions.
