Bomber Hoax Sends Police Into Frenzy at Huntingdon Pub
Simon Latore, 42, sparked panic on 29 July when he called 999 to claim he had planted a bomb in the disabled toilets of a Huntingdon pub – warning it would explode in just seven minutes.
Emergency Services Race to Scene, Find Nothing
Officers scrambled to the pub and its surroundings, conducting an urgent and thorough search. But no bomb was found. It quickly became clear the threat was a lie.
Latore Caught, Admits Hoax, Jailed for a Year
The police tracked the call back to Latore, from Aspen Green, Huntingdon, who confessed to the hoax and apologised. He claimed he didn’t think anyone would take him seriously.
On 6 December, Cambridge Crown Court sentenced Latore to one year behind bars for communicating false information – a bomb hoax.
Detective Slams Latore’s Reckless Prank
“Latore is paying the price for his reckless actions. He wasted hours of police time and resources, which could have been better spent elsewhere and caused a great deal of fear and inconvenience for the owners of the pub and local residents,” said Detective Constable Megan Solomon.
“I hope he has some time to reflect on his behaviour and I hope this sentence shows how seriously we take incidents of hoax threats.”
