King Charles III Grants Special Permission for Burial of Young Hit-and-Run Victim in Folkestone Churchyard

In a heartfelt gesture of empathy, King Charles III has authorized a special exception for the burial of seven-year-old William Brown, who tragically lost his life in a hit-and-run accident, at his local churchyard in Folkestone, Kent.

The devastating incident occurred on December 6 when young William was struck by a vehicle on Sandgate Esplanade in Folkestone, leaving the entire community deeply saddened. A 49-year-old individual was taken into custody in connection with the hit-and-run and has been released on bail, pending further investigation by the police.

Responding to a formal request, the Privy Council announced that His Majesty The King had exercised his authority to grant ‘burial ground variation orders.’ These orders permit burials in churchyards where conventional interments are no longer possible. In this particular case, this exceptional approval will allow William’s family to lay him to rest at St Mary and St Eanswythe Church, in accordance with his mother’s earlier plea for a fundraising campaign to cover the funeral expenses.

A spokesperson for the Privy Council stated, “We are pleased that His Majesty The King, upon the advice of his Privy Council, has granted this permission to support the family during these tragic circumstances. Our thoughts are with the Brown family and the local Folkestone community at this difficult time.”

William, a student at St Eanswythe’s Church of England Primary School, has left a lasting impression on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him. The community has united in providing comfort and support to his grieving family as they navigate through this profoundly challenging period.

The decision to allow William’s burial at St Mary and St Eanswythe Church underscores the depth of compassion and solidarity that can arise in times of sorrow, offering solace to his family and serving as a poignant reminder of the enduring strength of community bonds.
