Burglar Gets Over Seven Years for Home Invasion Near Haywards Heath

A brazen burglary in Cuckfield has landed the culprit behind bars for more than seven years. Justin Collins, 46, was sentenced to seven years and six months after breaking into a home on Brook Street and stealing jewellery worth thousands.

Owner Caught Burglar Red-Handed

The shocking break-in happened just before 3pm on November 2, 2021. Collins forced his way inside and was caught red-handed by the 44-year-old homeowner rummaging through a wardrobe. A scuffle broke out, leaving the victim with minor injuries.

Swift Justice After Months on the Run

  • Collins, who had no fixed address, fled the scene with valuables.
  • Police arrested him on January 18, 2022.
  • He pled guilty to burglary with violence at Lewes Crown Court on December 14, 2023.
  • Judge handed down a hefty seven-and-a-half-year prison term.
