Four Nabbed for Terror Suspicions at Pro-Palestine Rally in Westminster
Met Police Crack Down During Protest
The Metropolitan Police swooped on a pro-Palestine protest in Westminster last Saturday, January 13, arresting four people on suspicion of terrorism-related offences. The arrests came amid heightened security concerns linked to the demonstration.
Three Arrested on the Spot
At around 4pm, officers detained a 34-year-old man from south-east Kent, a 58-year-old man from west London, and a 36-year-old woman from South Yorkshire. They face charges for allegedly inviting support for a proscribed organisation, a breach of the Terrorism Act 2000. All three were taken to a west London police station.
Fourth Suspect Nabbed at Protest
On Sunday, January 14, police arrested a 49-year-old south London man. He was identified during a counter-protest outside a west London station against the earlier terrorism arrests. He is also suspected of inviting support for a banned group and was taken into custody around 3pm.
Ongoing Investigation and Bail
All four suspects have been granted bail and must return to a west London police station in late March. Meanwhile, searches have been carried out at four properties across south-east Kent, South Yorkshire, west London, and south London as police continue their probe.
Met’s Terrorism Crackdown Intensifies
The Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, led by Commander Dominic Murphy, is juggling around 30 investigations linked to protests, most involving potential terror offences. He stressed, “The vast majority of people attending protests are doing so peacefully. There are consequences for those who are not, and where officers see people supporting proscribed organisations, we will take action.”
The UK threat level remains “substantial.” Authorities urge the public to stay alert and report suspicious activity confidentially via gov.uk/ACT or call 0800 789 321.
