Local biker, 59, dies in horror Preston crash as driver probed

Tragedy struck on Staithes Road, Preston, just before 7.15am yesterday when a dark silver Vauxhall Astra smashed into a blue Yamaha motorbike, claiming the life of 59-year-old Stephen Chapman.

Stephen Chapman, a well-known local man, died at the scene after the collision with the car which is reported to have crossed onto the wrong side of the road. He leaves behind a devastated wife and family, who have asked for privacy while they come to terms with their loss.

Driver arrested but now released under investigation

A 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but has since been released under investigation as police continue to gather evidence.

Police hunt witnesses to fatal crash

Officers are appealing for anyone who saw the crash, spotted the vehicles beforehand, or noticed suspicious behaviour afterwards to come forward.
