Nine people have been taken to hospital following a collision between a police van and a double-decker bus in southeast London.
Emergency services were called to the scene on Kennington Park Road at 11:30 am today (February 14). The incident involved a police van and a bus, prompting a swift response from police, ambulance crews, and fire crews.
According to reports, three individuals who disembarked from the bus were transported to the hospital by ambulance. Additionally, one police officer, initially reported to be trapped inside the vehicle, was freed by firefighters before being taken to hospital. Several other police officers were also admitted to the hospital for precautionary measures.
Thankfully, all injuries sustained in the collision have been assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.
Road closures have been implemented in the vicinity as authorities work to manage the aftermath of the incident. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police provided details of the response, stating, “Police were called to Kennington Park Road, SE11 at about 11:32hrs on Wednesday, 14 February following reports of a collision involving a police van and a bus.
They further added, “Officers attended the scene alongside colleagues in LAS and LFB. Nine people were taken to hospital, including six police officers. Their injuries have been assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.”
The London Fire Brigade confirmed their involvement, stating, “Firefighters were called at 12:11 to a report of a road traffic collision on Kennington Park Road, SE11. A double-decker bus and a police vehicle were involved.
They also noted, “Two fire engines from Clapham and Peckham fire stations and a fire and rescue unit from Battersea Fire Station attended the scene.
As authorities continue to manage the situation, residents and commuters are urged to exercise caution in the area affected by the road closures.
