Drunken Row Ends in Stabbing Horror on James Street
Just after 10pm on Saturday 15 July, Southampton police rushed to James Street after a man was viciously stabbed.
Armed officers arrived within minutes and found the 48-year-old victim suffering from serious wounds to his shoulder and torso.
Man Arrested and Charged with Attempted Murder
Following witness statements, 67-year-old Boguslaw Biela was arrested. He was charged with attempted murder.
At Southampton Crown Court on 11 December, Biela denied attempted murder but pled guilty to section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was sentenced to nine years behind bars on 9 February.
Knife Attack After Drinking Spat
The court heard the attack followed a heated argument after a night of drinking. Biela used a kitchen knife to inflict life-threatening injuries.
The victim was rushed to hospital and thankfully survived, though he now faces ongoing struggles due to his wounds.
Police Urge Public to Avoid Violence
“We are pleased with this result, which means that Biela will face the consequences of his violent actions,” said Detective Sergeant Daryanne Ryan.
“The victim endured a traumatic ordeal that has impacted his life greatly. Thanks to our officers’ quick actions, lives were saved.”
“If people find themselves in heated situations after drinking, remember – violence ruins lives, can tear families apart, and leads to prison sentences. It’s never worth it.”
“Our message is simple: think, de-escalate, and walk away.”
“Tackling knife crime is a top priority in Southampton. We’ll keep using every power to make our streets safer.”
