West Yorkshire Cop Charged Over Hamas Images on WhatsApp
PC Mohammed Adil, 26, a West Yorkshire Police officer, has been hit with terror charges under the Terrorism Act. The officer allegedly shared images supporting Hamas, a banned terrorist group, by posting photos of a Hamas headband on WhatsApp.
Police Probe Links to Protests Amid Rising Tensions
Counter Terrorism Policing 123 launched the investigation after two separate incidents, including one on November 4—coinciding with major protests in London’s Trafalgar Square. Demonstrators there called for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
Nationwide Crackdown on Terror Support Following October Attacks
The arrest of PC Adil is part of a wider clampdown across the UK after the deadly October 7 attacks linked to Hamas. Authorities have intensified efforts to stamp out public support for the group.
A Counter Terrorism Policing North East spokesperson said: “These charges underline our firm commitment to tackling terrorism-related activities.”
PC Adil Suspended and Awaiting Court Appearance
Adil, now suspended, was arrested in November 2023. He’s currently out on bail and set to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on May 2, 2024.
The case highlights growing concerns over digital platforms being used to spread extremist content. It also raises important debates on balancing freedom of expression with national security.
