Lewisham Man Gets Suspended Sentence for Running Southampton Brothel
A Lewisham man who ran a brothel in Southampton has dodged jail time with a suspended sentence.
Ting Di Lin’s Secret Southampton Brothel Revealed
Ting Di Lin, 51, from Lee Church Street, masterminded a brothel operation between May and July 2019. Lin arranged the lease, furnished the property, and organised travel for women offering sexual services, which were advertised online.
He was arrested in July 2019 with over £5,000 in cash on him. Lin later pleaded guilty to conspiracy to engage in human trafficking, controlling prostitution for gain, and transferring criminal property.
Sentence: Suspended Jail and Rehab for Lin
On May 17, Lin was handed 15 months behind bars – suspended for 18 months. He must also complete 15 rehabilitation sessions as part of his sentence.
Meanwhile, Mehmed Mehmed, 29, from Cardiff, received a 123-month sentence, also suspended for 18 months, plus 130 hours of unpaid work. He was found to have profited by allowing his bank accounts to process the brothel’s earnings.
Police Slam Exploitation of Vulnerable Women
Detective Constable Adam Knight, from the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU), said: “Lin attempted to exploit vulnerable women for financial gain, and Mehmed profited from allowing his bank accounts to be used to process the money made by the brothel.”
Though both men have avoided immediate jail, their suspended sentences come with strict conditions and rehabilitation, reflecting the serious nature of their crimes.
