We Are Survivors, a leading UK charity advocating for male victims and survivors, has unveiled its “MANifesto,” urging political leaders and parties to prioritise the needs of male survivors in the upcoming parliamentary term.
We Are Survivors is a UK-based charity committed to empowering male survivors of sexual violence and promoting societal change. Through advocacy, education, and support, the organisation aims to create a world where no survivor is left behind.
With the General Election scheduled for July 4, the nation is gearing up for a crucial vote. As political parties outline their agendas, We Are Survivors is calling for increased attention to the challenges faced by male survivors of sexual abuse, rape, and sexual violence.
Duncan Craig OBE, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of We Are Survivors, emphasised the importance of transparency and accountability. “As a charity leader,” he stated, “it’s our duty to hold those in power accountable. While each individual voter will decide where their ‘X’ goes on election day, we must provide parties and candidates with information on our causes and advocate for positive change.”
Duncan, himself a survivor of sexual abuse, has long been engaged in political discussions. However, this marks the charity’s first formal request to political leaders.
“We’re asking all political candidates to continue the dialogue,” Duncan explained. “Together, we can make a concerted effort to combat sexual violence and ensure no male survivor is left behind. Difficult discussions are essential to ending this epidemic.”
We Are Survivors has recently launched three initiatives aimed at raising awareness and supporting male survivors:
- Beyond The Silence: A new quarterly magazine featuring exclusive interviews, including one with Richard Gadd, creator of “Baby Reindeer.”
- On It: A partnership project with the North West HIV Charity George House Trust, addressing the impact of ChemSex and drug-facilitated sexual activity.
- We’re Allies: A collaboration with Mandem Meetup, building an army of allies to better serve male survivors.
In February 2025, the organisation will celebrate its 16th anniversary, marking years of dedicated advocacy and support for male survivors.
