Fatal Dog Attack on Sheep in Ashdown Forest

Ashdown Forest officials are saddened to report that a sheep was attacked by a dog on the night of June 6th or early on June 7th. The incident took place in the permanent grazing enclosure on the South Chase. The ewe, suffering from bite injuries on her back legs, was found near the Duddleswell cattle grid and was promptly taken to Crest Farm for treatment.

Her owner has been diligently working to ensure her recovery. Despite these efforts, we regret to inform you that the sheep succumbed to her injuries overnight on June 7th.

This incident highlights the importance of responsible dog ownership. He was keeping dogs on leads when near livestock is crucial to prevent such tragedies. Sheep worrying is a serious crime with significant consequences for the dog, its owner, and the affected livestock.
