Ten E-Scooters Confiscated by Police in Dartford Town Centre Crackdown – UKNIP

Ten e-scooters were confiscated by police in Dartford after being ridden illegally in the town centre. The confiscations took place during a public outreach event held on May 29 and 31, where officers and Dartford Council representatives provided information about the updated Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in the city.

The PSPO, which has been in place since 2017 to combat anti-social behaviour, was amended in February to include restrictions on riding e-scooters in the main pedestrian area of the town centre. This order can be enforced by both council staff and Kent Police officers.

During the outreach days, 10 e-scooters were seized for illegal riding. Additionally, Kent Police issued six traffic offence reports, while council staff handed out five fixed penalty notices for PSPO breaches.

Dartford Community Safety Unit Inspector Lee Cheesman commented on the crackdown: “It is illegal to use e-scooters in public spaces and not only poses a danger to members of the public but can also cause injury to the rider. Kent Police continues to work with partner agencies to ensure that Dartford remains a safe, pleasant and vibrant town to visit, and we will not tolerate any anti-social behaviour. We will continue to take a robust stance on anyone intent on causing issues in the town.”

The outreach event aimed to raise awareness about the updated PSPO and ensure the safety and enjoyment of the town centre for all residents and visitors.
