Dartford Cracks Down on Illegal E-Scooters
Police swooped on Dartford town centre, confiscating ten e-scooters ridden illegally. The seizures happened during a public outreach event on May 29 and 31, where officers teamed up with Dartford Council to spread the word about the updated Public Space Protection Order (PSPO).
New PSPO Bans E-Scooters in Pedestrian Zones
The PSPO, in place since 2017 to tackle anti-social behaviour, was amended in February to ban e-scooters in Dartford’s main pedestrian areas. Both council staff and Kent Police now have powers to enforce the new rules.
Fines and Seizures Landed on Scooter Riders and Rule-Breakers
- Ten e-scooters seized for illegal riding during outreach days.
- Kent Police issued six traffic offence reports.
- Council handed out five fixed penalty notices for PSPO breaches.
Community Safety Boss Warns: E-Scooting in Town Centre is a No-Go
Dartford Community Safety Unit Inspector Lee Cheesman said: “It is illegal to use e-scooters in public spaces and not only poses a danger to members of the public but can also cause injury to the rider. Kent Police continues to work with partner agencies to ensure that Dartford remains a safe, pleasant and vibrant town to visit, and we will not tolerate any anti-social behaviour. We will continue to take a robust stance on anyone intent on causing issues in the town.”
The outreach event was designed to educate residents and visitors alike about the updated PSPO, keeping Dartford safe and enjoyable for all.
