Ryanair Warns of Summer Chaos: Delays and Long Queues Loom
Ryanair passengers, brace yourselves! The budget airline has issued a stark warning about travel disruptions this week and all summer. Expect lengthy queues and flight delays at London Stansted Airport due to factors beyond Ryanair’s control.
Long Security Queues at Stansted
Ryanair urges travellers flying from London Stansted on Monday, 15 July, to arrive extra early. In a blunt statement, the airline said: “Passengers who do not have any bags to check in should head straight to security when they arrive at the airport.” They apologised for the extended queues but stressed these delays are not their fault.
ATC Staff Shortages Fuel Flight Delays
The airline is also sounding the alarm over “excessive delays” expected throughout summer due to a shortage of European Air Traffic Control (ATC) staff. Ryanair revealed that almost one in five flights on 15 July were delayed thanks to ATC issues.
“Ryanair, Europe’s No.1 airline, apologises for these unacceptable delays affecting all European airlines – a situation beyond our control,” the airline said.
Despite no French ATC strikes this summer, flight volumes are still down 5% compared to 2019, piling pressure on the system. Ryanair is working with authorities to tackle the chaos, but passengers should prepare for disruptions.
Travellers Heading to Hotspots, Beware
Meanwhile, Britons jetting off to popular holiday spots are also being urged to stay alert. Morocco travellers have been warned about unexpected protests and clashes in major cities, with the Foreign Office advising:
“Protests and demonstrations could occur across the country, often without warning. While many protests remain peaceful, some have resulted in clashes between police and protesters.”
