HSE Takes Over Probe After Lambeth Country Show Ride Malfunction Injures Four

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has stepped in to investigate a serious ride malfunction at the Lambeth Country Show on June 8, 2024. The incident, which left four people injured, happened in Brockwell Park, London. Initially, the Metropolitan Police led the inquiry, but responsibility transferred to HSE on July 16.

Forensic Tests Underway to Pinpoint Cause

The faulty ride is now undergoing a thorough forensic examination at HSE’s Buxton Science and Research Centre. Officials are determined to find out what went wrong and check if health and safety laws were broken during the incident.

“This is a complex case that demands a detailed investigation,” said HSE inspector Stacey Gamwell. “We will thoroughly examine what happened and decide if any health and safety regulations were breached. Once complete, we will consider formal enforcement action where necessary.”

HSE Keeps Victims Informed as Safety Concerns Mount

The HSE has been in regular contact with those injured, keeping them updated throughout the investigation. This change in leadership from the police to the HSE means a sharper focus on technical and safety issues.

Lambeth Show Under the Spotlight

The Lambeth Country Show, a popular local event featuring various attractions, now faces increased scrutiny. Calls for tougher safety rules at public gatherings are growing as safety advocates, event organisers, and attendees await the investigation’s outcome—one that could reshape safety protocols nationwide.
