Murder Investigation Underway in Scarisbrick After Farmer Shot Dead

A rural community in Lancashire is reeling after a 75-year-old farmer was shot and killed in his own field. The incident occurred on Thursday around 5:00 PM in Pinfold Lane, Scarisbrick, where the farmer was found with a suspected gunshot wound.

Despite rapid response and efforts by emergency services, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Lancashire Police have arrested a 29-year-old local man on suspicion of murder, and he remains in custody. Authorities have also recovered a shotgun at the site of the shooting.

Neighbours described a sudden influx of police activity in the area. One local resident recounted to the ECHO, “Police flew down the road. They were all stood at the end of the driveways and focused their attention there at first before moving onto the farm.”

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Fallows, leading the investigation, addressed the incident, stating, “A man has very sadly lost his life as a result of this, and we have a dedicated team of officers working to establish what led to his death.

The police are treating this as an isolated incident, noting that the victim and the suspect were known to each other. DCI Fallows reassured the community, “We aren’t looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.”

He also made a public appeal for assistance: “If you have any information, saw or heard anything suspicious, or have dashcam footage from the Pinfold Lane area of Scarisbrick yesterday between 12 PM and 5:30 PM, please get in contact.

This incident has stirred concerns within the Scarisbrick community, prompting police to increase their presence in the area to provide reassurance while the investigation continues.
