A peaceful rural community in Lancashire is stunned after a 75-year-old farmer was fatally shot on Thursday evening. The grim discovery happened around 5 PM on Pinfold Lane, Scarisbrick, when the victim was found with a suspected gunshot wound in his own field.
Arrest Made as Police Recover Shotgun
Emergency services rushed to the scene, but the elderly farmer was pronounced dead before help could arrive. Lancashire Police have since arrested a 29-year-old local man, detaining him on suspicion of murder. A shotgun was recovered at the scene as investigations intensify.

Neighbours described a sudden surge of police activity that shook the normally quiet area. One resident told the ECHO, “Police flew down the road. They were all stood at the end of the driveways and focused there before moving onto the farm.”

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Fallows, leading the probe, said:
“A man has very sadly lost his life as a result of this. We have a dedicated team working to understand what led to his death.”
DCI Fallows confirmed this is an isolated incident, adding the victim and suspect were known to each other. “We aren’t looking for anyone else in connection with this.”
