Man Jailed for 17 Years After Harrowing 10-Day Campaign of Abuse in Lambeth

A man who subjected a woman to a brutal 10-day campaign of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse in Lambeth has been sentenced to 17 years in prison.

Nam Nguyen, 27, held the woman captive inside a flat in Tulse Hill in September 2023, where he exerted complete control over her life.

Over 10 days, the victim was repeatedly assaulted, raped, and suffered severe injuries, including a spinal fracture. Nguyen also controlled her finances and physically restrained her to prevent her from leaving the flat.

The victim managed to escape by jumping from a window and fleeing to a nearby care home. Staff at the care home found her with serious injuries to her face and body and immediately contacted the police, who launched a rapid investigation.

Nguyen was arrested nearby shortly after the victim’s escape, and further forensic and CCTV evidence linked him to the crimes. The victim provided a detailed account of the abuse she endured, leading to Nguyen’s conviction.

On Friday, August 16, 2024, Nguyen, of no fixed address, was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court to 17 years in prison, with an additional four-year extended sentence. He must serve two-thirds of his sentence before being eligible for parole and will be subject to notification requirements for the rest of his life.

Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh, local policing commander in Lambeth and Southwark, praised the bravery of the victim and highlighted the severity of the case. He said, “It’s hard to imagine the pain and suffering this woman went through, and I am pleased the man responsible for these awful crimes has been brought to justice. This has been an incredibly complex investigation, and I hope this outcome demonstrates how the Met is committed to tackling violence against women and girls.

Nguyen was convicted of multiple charges, including false imprisonment, controlling and coercive behaviour, wounding with intent, threats to kill, grievous bodily harm, rape, and sexual assault. He was found not guilty of one count of administering a noxious substance.
