House in Eastbourne Razed by Lithium Battery Blaze
A lithium battery is blamed for a massive house fire that tore through a property on Woburn Way, Eastbourne, Thursday night. Fire crews rushed to the scene just after 9.40pm after reports of heavy flames causing severe damage.
Woman Treated as Fire Devastates Home
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) confirmed one woman was helped by paramedics at the scene. The blaze left the house “seriously affected,” with extensive damage to the first floor and loft.
ESFRS said: “Officers at the scene have informed that the likely cause of the fire was due to a lithium battery from a Segway charger.”
Firefighters Battle Flames With Six Appliances
Six fire engines and an aerial ladder tackled the inferno. Firefighters in breathing apparatus worked to contain the fire, preventing it from spreading further.
Police and ambulance crews were also at the scene, securing the area and assisting residents.
Locals Warned to Keep Clear and Shut Windows
Due to the blaze’s severity, locals were urged to keep windows closed and avoid the area while emergency teams worked.
ESFRS revealed they would stay on site well past midnight to extinguish hotspots and make the area safe.
