Defib the Station Cat’s Save Campaign Hits 62,000 Signatures!
The beloved 16-year-old station cat, Defib, at Walthamstow Ambulance Station is fighting for his future. A fiery petition on Change.org has smashed past 62,000 signatures as public outrage grows against the London Ambulance Service’s (LAS) decision to evict the feline friend of staff for over a decade.
LAS Cites Safety and Allergy Concerns
The LAS has responded to the backlash, saying:
“We are looking for a worthy retirement home for Defib the cat. As he has got older, his reactions have slowed, and he has had several near misses being run over by ambulances. Additionally, some new staff members suffer from cat allergies and can’t use the station for breaks.”
Despite these concerns, supporters insist Defib’s companionship is priceless for ambulance workers tackling high-pressure, traumatic shifts daily.
Supporters Rally on Social Media to #SaveDefib
The campaign has exploded online, with the @SaveDefib Twitter account gathering followers who share heartfelt stories about the station cat’s role in lifting spirits. One management post-grad put it best:
“Employees don’t quit jobs because they hate the work — they leave because of bad bosses and poor decisions. Managers should promote empathy, not ego.”
While LAS backs therapy animals, the community says nothing replaces Defib’s unique bond with Walthamstow Ambulance Station staff.
What’s Next for Defib?
Locals and fans are pleading for Defib to stay in the home he’s known for years. As the petition grows and voices get louder, the public eagerly awaits the LAS’s next move.
