A murder investigation has been launched after a man who was stabbed on Laitwood Road in Balham on Monday morning died in hospital. Emergency services were called to the scene around 5:40 a.m., where they found the victim with life-threatening injuries. He was taken to a major trauma centre, but despite efforts by medical staff, he was later pronounced dead.
The identity of the victim has yet to be determined, and officers from the Met Police are working to confirm his identity and notify his next of kin. A 21-year-old man, initially arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, has since been re-arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody as investigations continue.
A Met Police spokesperson stated: “At 6 a.m., police were called to Laitwood Road in Balham following reports of a stabbing. Officers attended the scene and found a man with stab injuries. Despite the best efforts of emergency services, he sadly later died. Enquiries are ongoing to identify him and locate his next of kin.”
London Ambulance Service confirmed they responded to the incident, dispatching crews, paramedics, an incident response officer, and London’s Air Ambulance to the scene. A spokesperson said, “Our crews treated a man at the scene before taking him to a London major trauma centre as a priority.”
