Fire at Waterloo: Major Response as Blaze Disrupts Traffic and Public Transport

Firefighters rushed to a blaze at a building complex near Waterloo Station in central London this morning (Saturday, November 16), causing significant disruption to traffic and public transport in the area.

What Happened

The fire broke out at the Union Jack Club/Capital Tower complex on Waterloo Road around 9:30 a.m. At least five fire engines were deployed to the scene, with firefighters seen tackling flames near a wooden doorway of the building.

Buses on Diversions on the A301 Waterloo Road Southbound due to the incident, with diversions in place for bus routes 1, 59, 68, 172, 176, 188, and C10.

 

Emergency Response

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) confirmed their attendance at the scene, while the Metropolitan Police managed traffic flow to ensure public safety. No injuries have been reported so far.

Disruption

The road closure led to significant delays for drivers and public transport users. Commuters were advised to check for updates and consider alternative routes.

Road Reopened

By 11:00 a.m., Waterloo Road was reopened, and traffic began moving as normal. However, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
