Jealous Ashford Man Jailed for Two Years Over Shocking Control Spree

Matthew Case, 38, has been locked up after a twisted campaign of control and violence against his partner came to light.

Shouting Spat Leads to Police Probe

Kent Police were called to Case’s Ashford home in 2021 after reports of shouting. What officers uncovered was far worse.

The victim revealed Case had been obsessively controlling her throughout their relationship. He wouldn’t let her leave the house to see family or friends and constantly accused her of cheating.

Mobile Phone Jail and Physical Assault

  • Case confiscated the victim’s mobile phones to stop her reaching out for help.
  • He even smashed her phones on several occasions.
  • On multiple occasions, Case physically assaulted her.

His cruelty peaked when he boxed in her car in Ashford, leading to his arrest on 23 March 2021.

Justice Served with Jail and Restraining Order

At Canterbury Crown Court on 4 January 2022, Case admitted coercive control and assault causing actual bodily harm. He was sentenced the next day to two years and two months behind bars.

An indefinite restraining order also bans Case from contacting the victim or stepping anywhere near her home.

PC Matt Potticary, Kent Police investigating officer, said: “It is difficult to overestimate the impact actions like those carried out by Case have on victims of controlling and coercive behaviour.”

“I urge anyone suffering abuse or intimidation from a partner to contact us immediately. Our specialist teams are ready to help and bring offenders to justice.”
