Appeal to Locate Burglary Suspects After Arrest in North London

Metropolitan Police are appealing for information to identify four outstanding suspects following two burglaries in north London. The appeal comes after a man was arrested and has since pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary.

Incident Overview

At around 7:00 pm on Wednesday, 20 November, police responded to a burglary at a residential property on Winnington Road, N2. Upon leaving the house, one of the five suspects, armed with a pickaxe, approached officers before fleeing the scene in a black Audi A3 with the other suspects.

A police pursuit ensued, during which the suspects abandoned the Audi on Osborne Road, N4. Officers arrested one man at the location, while the remaining suspects escaped in a black BMW 5 series.

Investigation Findings

The Audi later confirmed to have been stolen and bearing false number plates, contained stolen property from the burglary on Winnington Road. Officers also recovered cash and jewellery from a second burglary at a property on Sheldon Avenue, N6, which had taken place around 6:00 pm the same evening.

Ongoing Appeal

Detective Inspector Peter Fernandez, leading the investigation, said:
“I am pleased that officers were able to arrest one person, who has been convicted of burglary. Our investigation is now focused on identifying the four outstanding suspects, and I am appealing for anyone with information to get in touch.

“The four men were wearing dark clothing and driving a black BMW 5 series. If you saw these men or this car on Wednesday evening or noticed anything suspicious, please contact police or, to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers.”

He added:
“We understand burglary is a key concern within the communities of Barnet. This arrest is part of the Met’s ongoing response to burglaries in north-west London. Officers will continue to respond swiftly and with determination. Over the coming weeks, Community Policing teams will be conducting extra patrols to provide a visible presence and offer crime prevention advice.”

Arrest Details

The arrested suspect, John Cooper, 40, of Lymington Avenue, N22, pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary at Willesden Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 22 November. He has been remanded in custody while awaiting a sentencing date.
