Emergency services were called to a disused RSPCA building in New Addington following reports of smoke billowing from the property.
The London Fire Brigade dispatched three fire engines from stations in Croydon and New Addington after receiving the call at approximately 4:30 p.m. Police officers also attended the scene to assist with safety measures.
Fire crews worked to extinguish the flames, deploying hoses to bring the blaze under control. Witnesses reported seeing thick smoke rising from the abandoned animal sanctuary, prompting concern from local residents.
The cause of the fire is currently under investigation, and the property remains cordoned off as authorities assess the damage.
