A dramatic fire in Ley Street, Ilford, East London, has caused extensive damage to a terraced house, with its roof being blown off and flames engulfing the first floor.

Emergency Services Respond

The London Fire Brigade has deployed eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters to tackle the blaze, which broke out at the two-storey property at around 4:09 PM today.

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade stated:

Firefighters are working hard to bring this fire under control. The roof and first floor of the property are alight.”

Station Commander Darren McTernan, who is at the scene, confirmed that a 32-metre turntable ladder is being used to fight the fire from above.

Police and Ambulance Services On Scene

The Metropolitan Police were called at 4:08 PM to assist alongside the London Ambulance Service. Cordons are in place to ensure public safety, and Ley Street has been closed between Eastern Avenue and Vicarage Road, causing traffic disruptions in the area.

Witness Reports

Control officers received 25 emergency calls from concerned residents reporting the fire, which caused explosions and the dramatic collapse of the roof. Fire crews from Ilford, Dagenham, Barking, and surrounding stations were dispatched to the scene.
