A child is in hospital after being rescued by firefighters from a burning flat above a shop in Leyton on December 23.
The London Fire Brigade was alerted to the blaze on High Road at 7:31 PM. The brigade’s control room received three emergency calls reporting the fire.
Approximately 25 firefighters from Leytonstone, Stratford, and Homerton fire stations were dispatched to the scene with four fire engines. They battled a significant blaze in a three-roomed flat on the second floor.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and rescued a child, who was then taken to hospital for treatment. A second person, a man, was treated and released at the scene.
The fire, which caused extensive damage to the flat, was brought under control by 8:59 PM. The cause of the blaze is currently under investigation.

Local residents praised the quick response of emergency services. One bystander commented, “It’s heartbreaking to see something like this happen, especially so close to Christmas. I’m relieved the child was rescued in time.”
