Two City of London Police officers have been commended for their quick-thinking actions that saved the life of a 22-year-old man who collapsed in a pub near Bishopsgate Police Station.
Incident Details
On Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at approximately 11:30 PM, Inspector Eamonn Keane and Police Sergeant Hollie Fraser responded to a call from pub staff about a man in need of urgent medical attention. The officers quickly retrieved a defibrillator from the station and arrived at the scene within a minute.
Amid a crowded pub, the officers found the man unresponsive on the floor.
“We knew he wasn’t breathing,” said Insp Keane. “We had to clear the crowd to begin life-saving efforts.”
Life-Saving Actions
- PS Fraser immediately began Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
- Insp Keane prepared and used the defibrillator on the man.
The officers continued CPR and defibrillator use for about three minutes until firearms officers, trained in advanced medical care, arrived to assist.
Outcome
Thanks to their swift actions and teamwork, the man regained a pulse and was stabilised before being transported to the hospital by the London Ambulance Service (LAS).
“It’s a testament to the importance of having a defibrillator nearby and being trained in first aid,” said Insp Keane, who has 19 years of service.

PS Fraser, with seven years in the force, emphasized the importance of teamwork:
“It’s about doing everything we can for the casualty and ensuring help is on the way. The support from our tactical firearms group and LAS was crucial.”
