A serious collision involving a Bee Network bus and a car has left five people hospitalized and prompted the closure of Blackfriars Road in Salford. The crash occurred shortly before 10 PM on Sunday, December 29, with emergency services responding to the scene.
The collision took place on the bridge between Mount Street and Lower Broughton Road, causing significant disruption as a large emergency service response was deployed.
Emergency Services Respond
The Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) confirmed that firefighters from Salford and Leigh stations attended the incident. Fire crews extricated the bus driver and three passengers from the vehicle before handing them over to the care of the North West Ambulance Service.
In a statement, a GMFRS spokesperson said:
“At just before 9:50 PM on Sunday (December 29), two fire engines from Salford fire station and the technical response unit from Leigh fire station were called to reports of a crash involving a car and a bus on Blackfriars Road, Salford.
“Firefighters extricated the driver and three others from the bus before handing them to the care of colleagues from North West Ambulance Service. Crews made the area safe alongside Greater Manchester Police and were in attendance for around one hour and 20 minutes.
Five Taken to Hospital
The Manchester Evening News understands that five people have been transported to hospital following the collision. The extent of their injuries is currently unknown.
Road Closure
Blackfriars Road remains closed in both directions between Great Clowes Street and Mount Street. The closure is expected to stay in place into the early hours of Monday morning as investigations continue and the area is cleared.
Police Investigation Underway
Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further details regarding the incident. Photos from the scene show a large cordon in place and multiple emergency service vehicles in attendance.
