Police Launch Investigation After Man’s Body Pulled from River Wensum

Police have launched an investigation following the “unexplained” death of a man whose body was pulled from the River Wensum near the Novi Sad Friendship Bridge in Norwich.

Incident Details

  • Emergency services were called to the Riverside area at 4:26 AM on Saturday, 11 January.
  • Norfolk Police, fire crews, and paramedics attended the scene and recovered a man in his 40s from the water.
  • He was taken to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital but was sadly pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
  • The man’s death is currently being treated as unexplained, and his next of kin have been informed.

Description of the Deceased

The man is described as:

  • Asian, of slim build, approximately 5ft 9in tall.
  • Wearing a black North Face puffer jacket and black trousers.
  • Also wearing a distinctive wide-brimmed hat.
  • Carrying a large black holdall.

Police Appeal for Information

Detectives are working to establish how or why the man entered the water and are urging witnesses to come forward.

A spokesperson for Norfolk Police said:

“We are appealing for anyone who was in the Riverside area of Norwich in the early hours of Saturday morning and may have seen anything unusual to contact us.”
“We are also requesting any relevant dashcam or CCTV footage that could assist the investigation.”
