Police Release New Image of Suspect in Covent Garden Assaults

The Metropolitan Police have issued a fresh appeal for information, including a new image of a man they are searching for in connection with two violent assaults in Covent Garden, which left an elderly man with a serious head injury.

The attacks occurred on the night of October 12, 2024, at around 10:33 pm, near the Royal Opera House.

Two Assaults in Quick Succession

The first victim, an off-duty police officer, was punched in the back of the head by the suspect in what appeared to be an unprovoked attack. Moments later, the attacker approached a second man in his 70s, pretended to ask for directions, and then violently pushed him to the ground before fleeing towards Bedford Street.

The elderly victim was temporarily knocked unconscious and suffered a bleed on the brain, requiring fifteen stitches to his head. Although he has since been discharged from the hospital, he continues to experience the after-effects of the assault.

Suspect Description

The suspect is described as:

  • White male
  • Approximately 5ft 9in tall
  • Medium build
  • Last seen wearing a black jacket on the night of the assaults.

Appeal for Witnesses

Detective Constable Greg Atkins stated:
“This incident took place in and around Covent Garden on a busy evening. We are making a renewed appeal for anybody with information to come forward. Do you recognise the suspect featured in the CCTV images?

He added: “Multiple people witnessed the assaults, and I urge anyone who can assist in identifying the person responsible to get in contact with us.”

Authorities are urging the public to come forward with any details that could lead to the identification and apprehension of the suspect.
