Elderly Man Brutally Attacked Along Chesterfield Canal
A 74-year-old man was viciously punched and pinned to the ground during a shocking daylight attack by Chesterfield Canal in Worksop.
Violent Assault Near Popular Pub
The assault happened around 11.30am on Friday, 25 November 2022, on the path between the Lock Keeper pub and Rhodesia bridge. The victim was approached by a man who struck him without warning, then forced him to the floor.
The victim pleaded for about five minutes before the attacker finally let him go.
Victim Suffers Serious Injuries
The elderly man sustained a broken collarbone and facial injuries. Police say the attack was unprovoked and left the victim shaken and in intense pain.
Police Hunt Attacker After Arrest and Bail
One man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm but has since been released on bail while inquiries continue.
PC Katherine Tremayne of Nottinghamshire Police said: “This was nasty unprovoked assault which happened in broad daylight. While we believe this is an isolated incident, the victim was left feeling deeply shocked and scared and in a great deal of pain.”
She added: “Our inquiries are ongoing and we are working hard to trace the man responsible for this appalling crime.”

Officers urge anyone who was near the canal path on that morning or who has any information to come forward.
